Wellard West Community Facility

The City of Kwinana is excited to invite local sporting clubs, state sporting organisations, and community groups to register their interest in activating the brand-new Wellard West Community Facility and McWhirter Oval. This modern, multi-purpose venue is designed to be a vibrant hub for sport, recreation, and community connection, supporting the needs of our rapidly growing and diverse community.

About the Facility

Located adjacent to Wellard Primary School, the Wellard West Community Facility features:

• A pavilion with modern changerooms, kiosk, and accessible amenities

• A flexible community hall for events, meetings, and cultural activities

• McWhirter Oval: a full-size senior AFL/cricket oval, with overlays for soccer and other field sports

• Two cricket nets, and outdoor fitness equipment

• Ample storage, car parking, and spaces designed for inclusivity and accessibility

Key Details

• Construction Timeline: Works commenced in March 2025, with completion anticipated by April 2026—ready for the winter sports season.

• Shared Use: McWhirter Oval is available outside school hours (8am–4pm during terms) and all day on non-school days. The facility is bookable year-round from 7am to midnight.

• Community Focus: The design reflects feedback from local residents, schools, and community groups, with a strong emphasis on multicultural inclusion, youth and family needs, and lifelong learning opportunities1.

Your Opportunity

We are seeking expressions of interest from groups who can:

• Introduce new or underrepresented sports, programs, or activities to Wellard West, especially those not currently available in Kwinana

• Deliver initiatives that foster inclusivity, cultural diversity, and community wellbeing

• Activate the facility with regular, innovative, and accessible events or programmes for all ages and backgrounds

• Build partnerships with local residents, businesses, and service providers to maximise community benefit

How to Register Your Interest

Complete this survey by 27 July 2025 to outline your club or group’s vision for using these spaces. Your submission will help shape the allocation of the Wellard West Community Facility, ensuring it meets the evolving needs of our community and delivers lasting social, health, and cultural outcomes.

Please note:

• It is a mandatory requirement that all clubs or organisations include “Kwinana” or a local Kwinana place name (such as Wellard) in their club name to be eligible for consideration.

• Applicants must also agree to comply with the City’s Terms and Conditions and Seasonal Guide.
