The Kwinana Loop Trail Upgrade has been identified as a major project within the City’s Strategic Community Plan, delivering social and physical wellbeing opportunities to the community. It is earmarked for completion over the next few years. The project has received state funding commitment of 3.5 million towards the upgrade of the trail surface, safe connections and realignments and a further commitment of 2.5 million towards by the federal government towards the development of Trail Hubs and an Urban Bike Park.
The City is excited to be able to bring this upgrade to the trail, that will offer both locals and visitors an accessible and immersive trail experience showcasing layers of history and distinctive natural features of the Swan Coastal Plan over a distance of 21 kilometres.
The first phase of works is expected to commence in the first half of 2026. This stage will focus on ensuring the trail connections are safe to use and easy to navigate. The remaining phases will focus on improvement to the trails surface in Leda Nature Reserve, and surface improvements and realignments to reduce ongoing erosion issues on the Trail through Unallocated Crown Land to the west of the City.

The City is preparing a Master Plan for the 21km Loop Trail and is excited to hear the community’s thoughts on how we develop the trail as an attractive metropolitan base for bush walkers, mountain bikers and other users. The intent of the Master Plan is to establish a vision and strategic direction for future development of the Loop Trail.
The City has engaged Common Ground Trails to prepare the Master Plan - comments on the Master Plan closed on 23rd May 2022.
