The City of Kwinana is submitting a development application for the demolition of the existing buildings at the above address.
Key points of the proposal are:
The proposed demolition of the former Kwinana Municipal Roads Board Building and associated outbuildings, this application seeks development approval for land owned by the City of Kwinana.
The building was constructed in 1954 and was the office of the local Roads Commissioner from 1954 to 1961 and then the Kwinana Roads Board Office from 1961 to 1963. The building was also home to St Johns Ambulance Service from the 1960’s. The building is presently vacant.
Prior to submission, the City of Kwinana met with the Kwinana Historical Group and a representative from the Medina Residents Group to discuss the proposal.
The building is included in the City of Kwinana Local Heritage Survey and is identified as having considerable local heritage significance as a Management Category B local heritage place requiring a high level of protection.
Under the Planning and Development Act (Local Planning Schemes) Regulations 2015 the demolition of a local heritage place requires development approval.
The application will be subject to a formal assessment process, during which all public submissions will be reviewed and considered prior to a final determination.
