KARLUP - OMG! Festival Artwork
KARLUP was conceived as a contemporary gathering place, a sculptural work that draws people together through light, warmth, and story. Fire has long been a symbol of connection, ceremony, and knowledge sharing across cultures, and this installation reimagines that idea through a layered, illuminated form that feels both ancient and futuristic.
The project is a collaboration with Perth based Noongar artist Noelene Regan, whose painted artworks form the emotional and cultural heart of the piece. Noelene’s 2D works are translated into animated projection content, wrapping the internal acrylic ring of the sculpture with movement, colour and narrative. The installation also incorporates an audio layer, featuring recorded voices of local elders and Nyoongar community members.
Together, the visual and audio elements create an immersive, multi-sensory experience that honours Noongar knowledge, elevates community voices and explores how traditional storytelling can be respectfully embedded within large scale public art.

KARLUP will be on display as a part of the 2026 OMG! Festival, and was produced by Noelene Regan and A Blanck Canvas
About the artist - Noelene Regan
Born on Binjarup Country, the artist is a descendant of the Yamatji and Noongar peoples of the southwest of Western Australia. They are a Creative Learning Producer and community engagement consultant, working at the intersection of contemporary art, cultural knowledge, and community connection.
Through their practice, they aim to share stories, culture, and Country in a contemporary context. Much of their work reflects a deep connection to Country and explores modern interpretations of Aboriginal culture. Drawing on stories shared by Elders and family members of the Stolen Generations, they have been creating art from an early age.
Their practice is underpinned by experimentation and a willingness to work across a range of mediums, viewing this exploration as an essential part of learning and growth. A strong belief in curiosity and community informs their approach, driving a desire to understand, explore, and collaborate with others.
They hold a Diploma of Visual Arts and have previously lectured at TAFE in Perth, Western Australia. Their professional experience includes curating exhibitions, producing creative learning programs, and facilitating public art and community-led projects. Their works are held in both private and public collections across Australia and internationally.
