Let Your Imagination Take Flight

This artwork, brought to life by VJzoo, draws on Hope’s experience growing up in Kwinana as a young artist finding his voice. It reflects a journey shaped by imagination and the visual language of his community. Balga trees lining Thomas Road, the Orelia Deli, his grandad’s frangipani tree, and eucalyptus trees alive with birds. He pays homage to the graffiti he fell in love with including pieces at the old skatepark. These early encounters with art in everyday spaces shaped his creative identity and laid the foundation for a practice that would later evolve into painting large-scale portraits of local people.

At its heart, the work speaks to the power of imagination, how ordinary surroundings can spark creativity, resilience and purpose. It explores the way art fosters human connection, transforming personal expression into shared stories. Grounded in place, the artwork celebrates how our community shapes identity, and how creativity can turn our lived experiences into something tangible that brings us together.

Let Your Imagination Take Flight has been produced by artists Hope Perth and VJzoo

Let Your Imagination Take Flight will be available to view at the 2026 OMG! Festival on Calista Oval. More details about the event can be found on the event Facebook page.

About the artist - Hope Perth Studios

Hope is a high accomplished and respected muralist, fine-artist and educator based in the Perth region of Western Australia.

Hope uses a range of techniques to bring attention to the unique beauty within peoples faces - understanding how features like the refl ection in their eyes, the richness of skin and the varied textures of a portrait can convey emotion, life and intergenerational stories.

Hope’s versatility has allowed him to be successful in both small scale canvas work, winning the Claremont Art Award in 2018, as well as creating large scale murals for his school at Gilmore College, the AFL, BIG W and the Special Olympics.

Hope was raised by a single mum in Kwinana growing up in a rough home. Because of his experiences Hope is passionate about telling his and other peoples stories through art.

About the artist - VJzoo

VJzoo is a partnership consisting of Kat Black and Jasper Cook.

While the range of media we work in is diverse and the actual form of the work varies a great deal to suit the situation, whatever artform it is expressed in it’s very… VJzoo. Some of the common themes we use in our work are history, memory, and a sense of wonder.

We love to collaborate – everything we do is a collaboration with each other, and we also enjoy working with others to bring their own perspective, experience and talents to the fore. We know that the tech of our artforms can be intimidating and off putting to non-nerds and by removing this barrier they can explore artforms they otherwise might not.
