FAQs
Why do we need a Bike and Walk Plan?
A Bike and Walk Plan offers a strategic framework to help guide the City in creating safer, easier, and more enjoyable ways for people to walk and bike. It aims to make it easier to get around without a car, improve connections between neighborhoods, and support a healthier, more sustainable community.
Who is the Bike and Walk plan intended for?
The Bike and Walk Plan is designed to make it easier and safer for everyone, residents, visitors, and people of all ages and abilities, to walk or bike around the City of Kwinana. It aims to create a connected network that supports walking and cycling for commuting, recreation, fitness, and leisure.
The City of Kwinana is dedicated to gathering input from the community and stakeholders to make sure our roads and pathways serve the needs of everyone who will use them.
What infrastructure will be considered in the Bike Walk Plan?
This is your chance to share what is needed in your neighborhood to help make walking, running, wheeling, and bike riding easier and safer for everyone. As our city grows and more people choose to be active, whether for fun or to get around, our transport networks are getting busier.
To support this shift, the City is considering a range of facilities to suit people of all ages and abilities. These could include shared or separated off-road paths, physically separated bike lanes, painted or buffered on-road bike lanes, and shared streets where bikes, cars, and pedestrians can safely move together.
In some areas, limited road space makes it hard to build or widen paths, so we will also be looking at creative solutions like safe active streets to improve access and safety.
How do I make a suggestion for my area?
Please take a few moment to provide your views and opinions by answering the questions in the survey.
For requests involving new or additional infrastructure, facilities, or amenities outside of the Bike and Walk Plan, please email customer@kwinana.wa.gov.au.
These requests will be reviewed and considered as separate projects.
How will actions from the Bike and Walk Plan be funded?
Funding for actions within the Bike Walk Plan will likely come from a combination of Local Government budget or grants from State and Federal programs.
The City’s revised Bike and Walk Plan will align with the Government of Western Australia’s WA Bicycle Network Plan 2014-2031, in order to be eligible for support and grant funding.
The City is focused on finding smart, cost-effective solutions that provide the greatest benefit to the community.
